This works! I followed the advice of one reviewer to charge it with hot water before adding food - I use this for my 8th grader that loves rice and does not want to take sandwiches- we heat up the rice around 7:30 AM and she eats lunch at 1:10 PM and it is still hot. She has even taken chicken tenders and French fries - still hot at lunch time. I use an electronic kettle to heat up the water to boiling and add it to the jar for 1-2 minutes with the top on - pour it out - rarely do I have to dry it out - then add food - it is very hot inside.Hot or cold, these are a great addition to any lunch bag! They even came with extra O rings! The folding utensil is so handy too! These containers are awesome! It kept my soup hot in 40 degree Temps for 6 hours. Highly recommend!Purchased 2 of these. They're the perfect size and keeps the food temperature very well.Only used it for hot food so far and it did well. But seems be sturdy so farDurabilidadLa comida queda bien caliente por horas!Serious Eats just did a test/review of thermoses (July 2021) so I ordered the Legendary Stanley and was able to purchase the Maxso locally, but I also bought a pair of these generic thermoses. I tested the generics for retaining heat by adding boiling water (201F) which was at 172F after 12 hours (held at 60F overnight). I preheated the thermos with boiling water for 5 min before adding the test water. Similarly, I pre-cooled the second thermos for 20 min in a freezer and added 40F water. After 12 hours the water was 68F. So the cold retention is not as good as the heat retention. In both cases, the thermos lids were hand tightened and were tested overnight upside down. I did not have any leaks in the cold or the hot thermos. The gaskets appear to be snug and several reviewers have indicated these were loose or they have nearly lost them but I did not find this to be a problem when cleaning. An extra pair of gaskets was in the box so that is a nice bonus. Another recent review did not understand the button on the top (under the folding spoon) that is to release/break the seal for hot foods. I had to use the button on the thermos with the hot water test to get the lid open so this button is a nice feature. What really sold me on these generics was that I could easily grasp the top and the anti-spill pad on the bottom to effortlessly open the top of these thermoses. I did not even bother testing the Stanley and Maxso recommended by Serious Eats as both are wider than these generics, and the Stanley is smooth on the bottom without an anti-spill pad. I found it was much more difficult to open the Stanley thermos without this gripping surface on the bottom. For women with smaller hands, the Stanley is just not user-friendly. Also, I did not understand why they bothered making the the Stanley sealer lid in 2 parts - maybe this small compartment in the top of the screw in plug is to hold ice cubes or condiments but to me this is just another part to clean (and potentially lose). I have a 40 year old large stainless steel Stanley thermos so I was really disappointed that this smaller traditional Stanley thermos was so hard to handle comfortably and to open. Additionally, I did not like that the spoon was on the outside and that the spoon was so difficult to remove from the holder. The Stanley did not have the release valve, and if you read the reviews you will see that some people have had the Stanley lid pop off explosively. The Maxso is similar to this generic but I did not like the slightly wider width at the bottom and the handle compared to these generics, that also came in nicer colors. I'm not thrilled about using plastic lids, but these are supposed to be BPA free and as the inside is stainless steel so it should be easy to clean. So far I have only used the 24 oz thermos once to carry a slide of cold pizza and after 4 hr this cold pizza was delicious after a hike. I'm looking forward to testing these thermoses further for both hot and cold foods.
